The photo albums long tail
Recent online photo albums startups (like flickr.com, buzznet.com and Ojos (via TechCrunch) seem to go slowly into giving access to all those photos just lying on our hard drives. Ojos seems very interesting, it kind of automatically tag photos based on facial recognition algorithms. You name a person once and all your photos featuring this person will be recognized and tagged with this person’s name. How about weird ideas, huh?

Face recognition isn’t that weird. Well, till now it was a bit of a weird technology: used mostly by governments, nuclear plants, airports, anti-terrorist units, you name it. But it was bound to come down to the masses, and now it has. Riya’s doing it and also an interesting startup called myheritage.com is brandishing its own face recognition technology, which is focused on genealogy. So while Riya helps you organize your own photos, myheritage.com helps you find photos of interest to you that other people have. Weird but lovely, isn’t it?
